St Neot W I Meeting Reports

Report of St Neot WI Meeting May 2016

Our President welcomed members and visitors to a very full meeting once again. It is very good that our WI is growing.

We heard that the visit for tea from Goonhavern WI had gone well, and members were reminded to claim back for the ingredients of food they had provided.

Members are to visit the theatre at Devonport to see the production of Iolanthe by Gilbert and Sullivan, in which one of our members is appearing.

Car sharing arrangements were made for those members attending the Chairman's Coffee Morning, this year at St Issey. The coffee morning is to help raise funds for the WI Marquee at Royal Cornwall Show.
Final arrangements were made for our May Fair and Car Boot sale on Monday 30th May in the field.
We are all looking forward to the visit on June 2nd to a production of South Pacific at The Minack Theatre, and were reminded to take suitable clothing, a picnic and a cushion!

Our Speaker was Andrew Keirl, a Liskeard Optician who spoke about age related eye problems and their treatment.

We learned about such diverse subjects as Cataracts, Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and Blepharitis, and that ones eye health is generally decided by the age of 18. Many of these conditions can be treated successfully, although not all. Some causes of eye problems are, UV light, bad diet, and smoking, and Mr Keirl wished that parents would encourage their children to wear sunglasses to protect their sight for the future.
Sylvia gave the vote of thanks.

Our competitions:

Flower of the month.
1. Margaret Ward, Lily of the Valley
2. Diana Smith, Camellia.
3. Marjorie Bunt, Rhododendron.

Alphabet Item "B"
1. Julie Ball, Bottle.
2. Barbara Smetherham, Bell.
3. Lydia Saunders, Blackpool photo.

Next month's meeting is on the 14th June. Instead of a speaker this will be a "Member's Evening", and the ABC competition is "D".
