ST NEOT WI REPORT MAY 2017

There is so much going on in the WI scene at this time of year that we started our meeting early. Barbara had left some “lonely bouquets” around the village for someone to find and take home – we hope they were enjoyed. We heard a report on the Spring Countdown in Truro, and voted on resolutions for the national AGM. These have covered many topics over the years, and once adopted have in some cases led to changes or amendments in laws, and influenced government policy and awareness on matters of concern.

This year we support a resolution about alleviating loneliness and one about Microplastic waste filtering into rivers and seas and eventually the food chain – both topics of concern for ours and future generations.

Members will take part in the Village Carnival on 25th June and help with teas. As always, our May Fayre features lots of stalls and helpers on 29th May.

Members are working on items for the Village Festival, and we are joining in with charity coffee mornings, rambles and outings to STERTS.

Our speaker was Simon Dell, a former police officer further down West in Cornwall for many years, telling us about 3 murders and a suicide. With intriguing anecdotes and details of backgrounds to the cases, he kept us enthralled to the end, and was ably thanked by Jean.

Our competitions:

Flower of the month: 1. Lynn – peony, 2. Bridget – lily of the valley, 3. Marjorie – Solomon’s seal.

Item “N” 1. Barbara – a Nest (from last year), 2.Diana – a Nude sculpture, 3.June – Nutcracker

Our June meeting will be our outing to Cornwall Air Ambulance. New members always welcome.
